The Forum at Pompeii. Looking towards the southwest corner at the entrance to the Basilica.
1. In and around the Pompeian Forum
View from the Forum north towards the Temple of Jupiter and Mount Vesuvius beyond. The flooring was paved with travertine slabs.
The same colonnade as above, but looking in a more southernly direction.
The Basilica viewed from the its Forum entrance. This building served as a courthouse as well as a business and financial center.
Looking from the Forum north through the Arch of Caligula towards Mount Vesuvius. This arch has been attributed to Caligula, but as with the names attributed to other arches in the city, there is little evidence to support them. It may be equally reasonable to consider the city arches were named after wealthy/prominent locals who had the means and wherewithal to influence city government.
Looking into the Forum through a portal and an archway from the southwestern corner of the Forum Baths.
